Questions for Kelsi

20 comments:

  1. I love how you plan on using your experiences of the world and different cultures to inspire your students. I don't recall much of art classes in secondary school, but what I do remember was fairly generic stuff. I wish I had had an art teacher that was willing to expand my view of art.
Though I've known you for a while now, I did not know that you were musical. Did you play an instrument? Do you still play?

  2. Hi, Kelsi! As an avid traveler, you seem to be well-versed on cultural cues. That's super neat. Have you considered meshing your love of the world with teaching, perhaps taking a job teaching abroad?

    1. Hey Hannah,
I definitely plan on teaching abroad after grad school, but I'm not sure what route I want to take. I feel like I need a better grasp on Spanish and another language to stay competitive. I feel like that will give me a wider variety of countries to choose from. I have always wanted to visit Italy, and have yet to go to an Asian country.

  3. Hey, Kelsi! It’s good to learn more about you. My question for you is, as far as your art is concerned, what are your favorite mediums to work in? Also, when did you first know you had an interest in art and what inspired you to keep going with it and to teach it?

    1. Bri,
My grandparents always kept my drawings and sketches. I don't remember when I first started but it always felt natural. I had to fight with my parents to start taking actual lessons though. Art is expensive when it comes to formal lessons and methods. My room was my studio until I came to college.

I explain my passion for art and majoring in art for undergraduate school like this: Art is the only thing that I can see myself doing for long periods of time without getting bored. So why not try my hand at trying to inspire students to love the arts as well?

  5. Hi Kelsi! I really enjoyed reading your biography! I look forward to getting to know you more this year. My question is who is your favorite artist and why?

    1. I would say that as far as aesthetics, my favorite artists are Vincent Van Gogh and the Impressionists. Another artists that I like are Salvador Dali, Frida Kahlo, and Vigee LeBrun.
Van Gogh's romantic and troubled past were always interesting to me; and the color theory is what I love the most.
Check out the background history of "Starry Night" when you have a chance. It is one of my favorites by Van Gogh.

  8. Hi Kelsi! I'm glad I'll be working and learning with you again. It's also good that we GC art students stick together. How different do you think this program will be from what we were used to in the art department? No more studio classes for us.
